Sustainability

Mosaics

Our vision is to be the UK’s leading, most trusted housebuilder, creating exceptional homes and sustainable communities.

Our approach

Our Vision has evolved into a clear and unifying purpose which reflects our commitment to sustainability and the three ‘pillars’ of environmental, social and governance matters.

We recognise that sustainability is a fundamental part of our business strategy, and believe that a sustainable future is achievable only through a holistic approach that encompasses environmental, social, and governance considerations.

Our approach to sustainability is grounded in the belief that our actions should have a positive impact on the world around us. We strive to make sustainable choices that benefit not only our company but also the communities in which we operate, our employees, and the planet as a whole.

Reducing our environmental impact

We believe that high-quality placemaking positively benefits the physical, social, emotional, and ecological well-being of people and their locations.

We collaborate closely with communities and partners through a series of bespoke engagement strategies relevant to each location, whether a city centre infill scheme or a greenfield garden suburb. We always aim to create a positive, long-term vision for existing communities and new residents with strategies informed through consultations, resident ballots in urban areas and neighbourhood plans in rural locations.

Our commitment to social value

During 2022, we have progressively reshaped our resident engagement offering and evolved our
Social Value strategy to 2025 in support of our vision: “To be the UK’s leading, most trusted housebuilder,
creating exceptional homes and sustainable communities”.

To achieve our vision, we place our people at the heart of everything we do. The ability to feel connected
starts with The Hill Way. Our People Come First Focus Group provides support programmes and initiatives, including health and wellbeing, training, and volunteer programmes. We aim to be an employer whose people are reflective of the communities in which we work.

Strategy and Responsible Business

As a people-centred business, health, safety and the environment are our primary concerns in everything we do – in our offices, on our construction sites and in the homes we build.

We are constantly focused on ensuring the well-being of all people working for Hill and our neighbours.
To underpin this commitment, project construction environmental management plans (CEMP) are
implemented, and we are dedicated to the Considerate Constructor scheme and its constitution. Encouragingly, our average score is 42/45 compared with an industry average of 40/45.

Reports & Policies

We are committed to transparency and accountability in our efforts to create a sustainable future for all, and believe that sustainable practices are critical to preserving our planet's natural resources, reducing our environmental footprint, and promoting social responsibility.

As a result, we have established comprehensive reports and policies that guide our actions towards achieving sustainability goals in all aspects of our operations.

Our latest sustainability reports provide an overview of our environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance. We have also developed a set of sustainability policies that outline our commitments to various sustainability issues, such as climate change, human rights, and diversity and inclusion. Our policies serve as a roadmap for our sustainability strategy and provide guidance to our employees, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
